Alize Cornet is a French professional tennis player.
Francis Cornet and Patricia Cornet are her parents of her. Sebastien, her brother, recently completed his Ph.D. Hugo is currently involved in a romantic relationship with Estelle Mazzega Schneider, a French beauty. On the ITF Circuit, she has gained one doubles name.
Cornet has won six singles and three doubles win on the WTA Tour, as well as three singles and three doubles titles on the ITF Circuit. On February 16, 2009, she achieved her highest WTA singles ranking of world No. 11 in the world.
Ranked First in France
Cornet has also reached the quarterfinals of each Grand Slam event, including the 2022 Australian Open, the 2014 Wimbledon Championships, the 2015 and 2017 French Opens, and the 2020 US Open. In singles tennis, she is currently ranked first in France.
Cornet had a successful junior career, winning the 2007 French Open for girls. After becoming a pro, she quickly established herself as a big danger on clay, reaching the final of the Italian Open at the age of 18 in 2008. She went on to win the Budapest event the following year, which was also held on clay.
Cornet has won six titles, four of them have been on clay. However, when she was paired against Serena Williams in 2014, she won on all surfaces. She defeated her first on hardcourt in Dubai, then on the grass at Wimbledon, and finally on hardcourt in Wuhan.
In the blazing heat of Rod Laver Arena, Alize Cornet defeated No. 14 seed Simona Halep 6-4 3-6 6-4 to move to the Australian Open quarterfinals. Halep had no answer for Cornet’s relentless aggression all around the court in the end, and the Romanian was plainly sweating in the second set.
Cornet has reached her first Grand Slam quarter-final in her 63rd major appearance, where she will face Danielle Collins of the United States, who upset Elise Mertens in three sets.
She made her Grand Slam singles debut at the 2005 French Open after receiving a main-draw wild card. Cornet made her Wimbledon singles debut in 2007. At that tournament, she was defeated in the final qualifying round by Olga Govortsova, although she qualified to the main draw as a fortunate loser after Li Na withdrew.
Cornet proceeded to the second round of the Australian Open, where she was defeated by Daniela Hantuchova, the ninth seed. She was ranked 17th in the singles category at the US Open, where she went to the third round after defeating Camille Pin and Bethanie Mattek-Sands in the first and second rounds, respectively, before losing 4–6, 5–7 to Anna-Lena Grönefeld in the third round.
Cornet’s 2016 campaign kicked off in Brisbane International. Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova defeated her in the second round. Cornet, who was seeded seventh at the Hobart International, defeated Eugenie Bouchard in the final to win her fifth WTA singles title. Shuai Zhang, a qualifier, beat Cornet in the second round of the Australian Open.
Cornet played in the 2017 Fed Cup World Group quarterfinal match against Switzerland, losing her lone singles match to Timea Bacsinszky; France lost the tie 1–4.
The first Abu Dhabi Open kicked off Cornet’s 2021 season in January.
Paula Badosa knocked her out in the second round. Cornet reached the final of the first Chicago Women’s Open in August but was defeated by Elina Svitolina. In the second round of Indian Wells in October, she was defeated 6-2 6-3 by Leylah Fernandez.
Cornet defeated Bulgarian qualifier Viktoriya Tomova, world No. 3 Garbine Muguruza, 29th seed Tamara Zidanek, and 14th seed Simona Halep in the 2022 Australian Open quarterfinals. Cornet reached the quarterfinals of her maiden major slam for the first time in her 63rd attempt.
