Grace is an American singer-songwriter who rose to prominence at a young age and is noted for her unusual voice, which she frequently accompanies on the ukulele. She was born on January 15, 2004, near Kansas City, Kansas.
Grace is the daughter of Tina and David Van der Valle, who lived in Lenexa at the time. In 2007, the family relocated to Suffolk, New York. Grace began singing and making up songs at the age of three as a pre-teen she found songwriting inspiration by watching movies and trying to imagine what a character was feeling and what it would be like if she were them and wrote a song. She decided to learn the ukulele after watching a Brazilian au pair play and seeing a 21 pilots video on youtube. She performed at the Planet Hollywood resort and casino in las vegas madison square garden the opening and closing of the 2017 special Olympics world winter games in Austria various benefit concerts in December 2016. She released her first ep perfectly imperfect on the Columbia records label in November 2017.
She released a full-length album just beginning in November 2018. She released a second ep letters volume 1 in November 2019. She has performed on Planet Hollywood. Grace’s first concert tour was in 2017 in support of Just the Beginning; she then toured in mid-2018 with Imagine Dragons on their evolving world tour; and in 2019, after opening for Florence and the machine on a tour, she headlined her owner so beautiful tour; and in 2020, she made her acting debut as Susan Star Girl Carraway in the Disney Plus musical drama film Star Girl.
Grace won the 2017 radio music award for her performance as Susan Star Girl Carraway in the Disney Plus musical drama film Star Girl. She won the 2017 Billboard Women in Music Rising Star Award, and she is the youngest person ever to be named to Forbes’ 30 Under 30 Music list.
Grace was born in Lenexa, Kansas in January of 2004. She is the youngest of three children born to Tina and David Vanderwaal. For her third birthday, Grace received a wireless microphone and would frequently perform for her family, making up her own lyrics.
Grace was the first singing act to win the agt by performing entirely original songs.
For her 11th birthday, Grace requested a ukulele, but her parents refused because they thought she’d never learn to play it. Grace then bought her own ukulele with money she received for her birthday and allowance, and she taught herself to play Grace’s confidence grew, and she set her sights on American Idol, the show that catapulted Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood to fame. Unfortunately, the show’s age limit was 15, and Grace was too young to audition, but this would open the door for another talent competition.
Grace proceeded to perform her original songs, winning the hearts of agt viewers with her sweetness and talent. She would go on to win season 11 of America’s Got Talent, becoming only the second female champion and only the second child performer in the show’s history. immediately after being crowned the winner of America’s Got Talent Grace received a record deal with Columbia Records, and her debut EP, Perfectly Imperfect, was published.
She returned to America’s Got Talent in December 2016 to perform Frosty the Snowman during the show’s holiday extravaganza. It’s a fairy tale, they say he’s made of snow, but the kids know how he came to life one day in May of 2017 when the 13-year-old singer won her first prize at the Radio Disney Music Awards for a best new artist.
Grace launched her perfectly imperfect ep in Japan the next month, performing and meeting with fans. She also founded the Little Miracles Foundation, which delivers music to school areas that don’t have access to it. Grace donated funds to help establish an elementary school choir in the east Ramapo school district due to a lack of funding, and she also sponsored scholarships for graduating seniors from Ramapo and spring valley high schools who were interested in music.
In November 2017, Grace released her first full-length album, just the beginning, which debuted at number 22 on the Billboard 200 albums chart. She started on her first solo concert tour two days later, the just beginning tour, which ran from April to February 2018, and tickets for all 13 cities were sold out months before the tour’s opening date in April. Later that year, grace joined together with famed guitar manufacturer fender to design two limited edition ukuleles.
Grace is the first ukulele player to have a fender signature model, as well as the youngest. Grace was featured on two prestigious music-related lists at the end of 2018.
In May of 2019, the New York Senate honored Grace with the New York Senate Women of Distinction Award in Albany, New York.
