Patrick Mahomes II is an American football quarterback who plays for the National Football League’s Kansas City Chiefs.
Early Childhood Development and Education
Patrick Lavon Mahomes II was born on September 17, 1995, in Tyler, Texas, to former Major League Baseball pitcher Patrick “Pat” Mahomes Sr. and event planner Randi Martin Mahomes. (Pat and Randi are no longer married, but they are still “friends.”) Pat played for several MLB teams during his 11-year professional baseball career, so the family spent a lot of time in flats and hotel rooms in the places where he was playing. Mahomes, who is biracial, has stated that he is “happy to be Black” as well as “proud to have a white mother, too.”
Mahomes was starting at quarterback for Whitehouse High School in Whitehouse, Texas, by his junior year, where he also excelled at baseball. He threw for 4,600 yards, 50 touchdowns, and only four interceptions as a senior, but college coaches still thought baseball was his destiny. Mahomes was picked in the 37th round by the Detroit Tigers after high school.
Mahomes turned down the opportunity and enrolled at Texas Tech in 2014, where he continued to play baseball in the hopes of entering the MLB draught again in the future. However, after a successful sophomore season as a starter on the football team, he turned his attention and stopped playing baseball.
Mahomes subsequently elected to miss his senior year at Texas Tech in order to enter the NFL draught, but he still finished third in passing yards, touchdown passes, attempts, and completions throughout his college career.
A career in the NFL
Mahomes was selected 10th overall in the 2017 NFL Draft by the Kansas City Chiefs, and he made his professional football debut and first start against the Denver Broncos in December of that year. He was named MVP of Super Bowl LIV, and later that year, he signed a 10-year deal with the Chiefs worth up to $503 million, reportedly the richest contract in sports history. For the second year in a row, Mahomes and the Chiefs have been selected to compete in Super Bowl LV in 2021. Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, on the other hand, defeated them 31-9.
In 2012, during his sophomore year at Whitehouse High School, Mahomes began dating certified personal trainer Matthews. Mahomes was a football player for Texas Tech, and Matthews was a soccer player for the University of Texas. The two stayed together while attending different colleges. Mahomes proposed to Matthews in Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri, on the same day he won his Super Bowl LIV Champion ring in September 2020.
A few weeks later, the couple announced that Matthews is expecting their first child, a girl, whom they revealed on social media. Sterling Skye, their daughter, was born on February 20, 2021.
