Youngest coach

He became the youngest head coach in modern NFL history in 2017 and the youngest coach to coach in a Super Bowl game when the Rams competed in Super Bowl LIII. McVay attended Marist School in Brookhaven, Georgia, for high school football and went on to play college football at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.

Career as an assistant

McVay began his coaching career as an assistant wide receivers coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers under Jon Gruden in 2008. The next year, he worked with the Florida Tuskers in the United Football League as a quality control/wide receivers coach. Under Mike Shanahan, McVay was hired as the assistant tight ends coach for the Washington Redskins in 2010.

As an Offensive Coordinator

He was promoted to tight ends coach the following year, a position he held until the end of the 2013 season. Jay Gruden, the new head coach, moved him to offensive coordinator in 2014. In his first year as offensive coordinator, he improved the Redskins’ pass offense from 12th to 10th in the NFL. The offensive was ranked third the following year, in 2016.

As Head Coach

McVay subsequently accepted a head coaching position with the Los Angeles Rams at the age of 30. As a result, he has passed Lane Kiffin, the Oakland Raiders’ 31-year-old head coach, as the NFL’s youngest head coach. Even though the Rams fell in the Wild Card Round to the Atlanta Falcons, he made his first playoff appearance in his rookie season. The Pro Football Writers of America named him Coach of the Year after his outstanding season.
